I’ve been fortunate to have photographed at Micklefield Hall a couple of times, and without question, the show stopping moment is when the guests walk through the beautiful gardens, past the French fountain, and arrive at the simply stunning lakeside setting, where the wedding ceremony takes place (weather permitting). I actually overheard a guest say ‘it’s straight out of a movie!’, and I’d have to agree with her!
I love all my weddings and all my clients…but some weddings have that extra special something for me. Steve and Francessca’s was one of those. The wedding venue, that this lovely couple chose, has to be one of my favourite venues I have shot a wedding at.
Steve and Francessca got married in April 2022, choosing Micklefield Hall for its impressive Great Barn, which really lent itself to their country casual wedding. The flowers brought a softness and colour to the venue, including the venue’s own flower screen, which is part of the setting, couples use the barn for their ceremony.
Micklefield Hall is a gorgeous country house wedding venue, located in Hertfordshire, surrounded by 350 acres of rolling fields, and was the perfect location for Steve and Francessca’s special day.
It’s always a joy to work with a fun couple like Steven and Francessca, these two were so chilled about their wedding day, everything felt easy and fuss-free. The morning began with a quick photoshoot. It wasn’t an especially warm day but no way were these two missing out on getting married in this gorgeous outdoor location.
After getting married by the lake, the guests wandered through the gardens for the reception, before finishing up at the 16th Century Great Barn, the wedding breakfast was served. It has a real rustic feel to it, with wooden beams, open fires and the ambiance there has always been on point. While the guests were all mingling and drinking, this was the perfect opportunity to take Steve and Francessca off for their couple shots. I was extremely fortunate to be able to capture some gorgeous sunset shots of the newlyweds overlooking the grounds but by far my favourite photos from their special day, have to be the silhouettes we created in the barn, using a purple gelled light and a flash gun.
Please let me do another wedding at Micklefield Hall, it has to be one of my favourite venues and as lovely as it was in April, it must be even more magnificent in the summer months, with all the plants in bloom around the grounds.
