I was lucky enough to be George and Shelly’s Welldiggers Arms wedding photographer not once, but twice, last summer. Due to Covid restrictions last spring they couldn’t invite all their guests, but by September they were able to hold a full-on wedding party. So this blog combines (almost seamlessly) the photos from both days.

Shelly is originally from the USA. Shelly and George met in London and choose to tie the knot in the pub the welldiggers arms – in Petworth, followed by a wedding reception in a cosy country pub.

George grew up in Sussex. George and Shelly have spent many happy hours walking in the beautiful South Downs National Park with their puppy Jaffy, who they both adore. Jaffy even made it along to some of the wedding reception and charmed everyone with his gorgeous blue eyes and enthusiasm.

I love working with brides who are as down to earth and relaxed as Shelly.

Shelly and Georges’s choice of songs in the cermomy put a smile on my face. A string quartet did a beautiful rendition of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” during the ceremony and Bon Jovi’s ” Living on a Prayer” for the couple’s walk down the aisle.

George and Shelly – I had such fun spending the day with you guys! Congratulations you two – may your life together be filled with love, joy and laughter.

George and Shelly choose the pub for their reception because from the garden you can see the exact spot on the South Downs where they had their first date when they were out walking Georges dogs.

Talking of views, for couples looking for a relaxed West Sussex wedding reception venue, The Welldiggers Arms should be top of your list. It has stunning views of the South Downs, fabulous food and a covered outdoor area for dancing. Add in a lovely beer garden, 14 rooms to stay over and some of the friendliest staff I’ve ever met, and you’ve got one of the best pubs around.
